International Translation Day is this Saturday, September 30! See photos of how ATISDA has celebrated this holiday in the past at the end of this post. Read on to learn more about this holiday and its background.
In celebration of International Translation Day 2017, ATISDA President Yolanda Secos writes the following:
Happy International Translation Day 2017!
The Association of Translators and Interpreters in the San Diego Area (ATISDA) has been celebrating International Translation Day since 2008, but on May 24 of this year, the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted Resolution A/71/L.68 recognizing the role of professional translation in connecting nations, and fostering peace, understanding and development. In the same resolution, the United Nations General Assembly declares September 30 to be UN International Translation Day to be celebrated across the entire UN network.
ATISDA will celebrate the feast of Saint Jerome on Saturday, September 30. The fortunate members who have already registered for this event will enjoy a walking food tour with Bite San Diego at Liberty Station. In addition to learning some captivating facts about Liberty Station and sampling some delicious food, we will have the opportunity to win some wonderful prizes:
• (2) ATISDA memberships or free renewals.
• A voucher for a Blue Urpi live or recorded webinar of your choice! Donated by Dr. Gloria Rivera.
• A voucher for a Success by Rx webinar! Donated by Jenae Spry.
